The Science Advisory Board has membership chosen to span a spread of disciplines and institutions. Convenor and Deputy Convenor and a representative from Landcare Research NZ are members automatically. The remaining membership rotates over time.

The Board meets twice a year. It gives advice on directions for working groups and other activities, and oversees progress of working groups. The convener nearly always acts on the Board’s advice, but ultimately is responsible for decisions.
