INTECOL SYMPOSIUM 43
Research Course: Free with INTECOL 2009 registration
Date: 19th August 2009
Contact: Adrienne Nicotra
A 4-way fusion is growing across ecology, functional genomics, phylogenetic history and earth system science; this fusion is fundamental to advancing our understanding of vegetation function and to our ability to adapt to climate change. The numerous Working Groups of the Vegetation Function Network reflect this breadth and demonstrate how synergies can be reached across these fields. Our symposium will present some synthetic work arising from a selection of the Network working groups. Our aim is not just to showcase that work, but to stimulate syntheses and innovative bridging across the broad range of working groups and topics that the Network hosts.
Speakers from eleven different working groups of the Vegetation Function Network will summarize outcomes and work arising, highlighting links with the theme of the INTECOL congress. Two sessions will be reserved for a structured discussion process to identify synergies and new possibilities that bridge across different working groups. These the discussions will provide vital opportunities not only to build links between existing working groups, but further to stimulate new ideas for further collaborations and working group proposals.
